The other week, January 23rd, my Graphic Design class and I took a field trip touring many museums and studios across Kansas City.
Our first stop took us to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. The museum held a variety of exhibitions and pieces by many other artists. But my overall favorite exhibit would be the "Butterfly Effect" and the meaning behind its works. The effect comes from a phenomenon in the chaos theory which states that a small change may lead to an unpredictable outcome; a very subtle change may lead to a massive event.
Next we took a tour of the photography and graphic design programs at the Kansas City Art Institute. I personally really enjoyed the tour because it is one of the top three colleges that I am looking at to go to. I like the small community of KCAI with only about an average of 20-25 students in your class and the personal one on one time you can get with the teachers. With the campus being so close to home too is a nice plus.
After a quick lunch break at the Nelson-Atkins Museum, we continued onward to City Ice Arts to visit works by Miles Neidinger, which we have previously studied in class, and tour some nearby studios. Of the three studios we toured that day, my favorite would be the silkscreen/letterpress studio by La Cucaracha Press where he makes posters anywhere to wedding invitations.
Overall the field trip was a blast and I look forward to many other trips like it.

I'm impressed that you are looking beyond the visible to address the ideas behind the artwork. Wouldn't it be cool if this field trip had a butterfly effect on our class!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog and I'm very impressed by your photography. I too liked the exhibit, "Butterfly Effect".
