Kerning

Kerning is simple the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a typeface. It is used to give a visual appealing product or look to the person looking at it. I myself use kerning all the time when making posters or logos for clients to give it the correct look. Kerning is essential to a Graphic Design when using typefaces because usually, depending on what your making, the title of your poster is the first to second thing the viewer sees. You want your typeface to be visually appealing to please not only the client but also the viewer.

Here's a little kerning game online where you can guess where the letters are suppose to go. I got an 86 percent on my first time. See if you can beat my score.

About Me

Hello my name is Michael Zager and I am currently a Freshman at the University of Kansas. I am currently studying Visual Communications. Photography is one of my hobbies that I have picked up over the years. I have always been interested in photography because of my father but never knew the elements, principles, and how to compose a photo until a few years ago. Self taught, I have learned the basics of composition and the photography rules.

About e-Comm

The e-Communication program focuses on Animation, Video, Wed Design, and Graphic Design. The Graphic Design strand in the E-Communications program focuses on using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create projects and do tutorials to further your knowledge in each program. Learning the basics of each Adobe program in the first year, then advancing your knowledge of each as you progress through your high school career gives us an advantage compared to other students going into the same college field as us. Animation focuses on the use of Maya to render images and videos created by students. The Video strand is broken up into two strands; Broadcasting and Entertainment. The Broadcast strand focuses on the use of developing skills in the broadcast field. Every few weeks they air a newscast called "ONW NOW" to show off their skills. Entertainment uses Final Cut Pro to make/edit various projects whether it be school wide or short films. Web Design, being self-explanatory, designs and codes html to make personal and professional websites for clients.
